Utah Scottish Festival

On Friday night we went to the Utah Scottish Festival.
I've been wanting to go for years just to see what is was about, but something always happens and we never make it.
This year, I was determined to go.

On the way there, Mike told me that if it sucked, it was all my fault.

Luckily for me, it didn't suck.
It was amazing!
There were a ton of people and vendors and food.
They had the highland games, celtic dance, and music.

After wandering around to see what was there, we got some food.
I text my dad and he recommended the haggis (ha ha).  We didn't fall for it.
I did get a "meat pie" though.  It was pretty much a chicken pot pie.  It was pretty good.
I wanted to get this shot of Dalton with his corndog because the Scottish flag is in the background.

We walked in right before the "tattoo" was about to start, so all of the different groups were lined up and practicing.
Everyone was dressed up.
We stopped these guys to ask if we could get a picture.
They were nice enough to put their hats on the kids for the picture.

Then we got homemade rootbeer, on tap, in these awesome bottles:

And then, we couldn't resist...
Mike bought the boys kilts.
We've been joking about getting Bridger a kilt forever!
He likes to be "comfy" and he likes to be "commando".
You should have seen his excitement when he got his first kilt!
Here he is dancing around in it:
Everyone that passed us would stop and smile at the three boys in their kilts.
They looked sooooo cool!

While we were taking pictures, this guy walked up behind us so we got a picture with him too.  I loved seeing everyone all dressed up!

Then we found this booth where they let the kids "fight the giant."
They put them in armor and then they get to kill the giant.
Saxon went first.  He held up his shield at first, then went straight for the attack...

Bridger went next.
He was a little more cautious.
He used his shield a lot and didn't want to come out from behind it unless he had a clear shot.  Once he got the giant on the ground, he stuck his sword in his side for good measure.

Since it was dark, they were closing up and the guy asked Dalton if he wanted to fight.
Of course he did.
He handed him a sword and Dalton went after the giant swinging his sword.
The boy is fearless.

We ended by watching the gathering of the clans, and then the group "The Wicked Tinkers" performed.
It was really impressive!
In the end, we all agreed that it was worth it.
The boys love their kilts and asked if they can sleep in them.
Saxon asked if we would take him back for his birthday.
Mike approved since he thought the food was good.
Success.

Hi Dear Ones...
You find such fun things to do! I never knew there was a Utah Scottish Festival. My Grant ancestors hail from Scotland; in fact, they are one of the major family clans from the Inverness area of the country. I loved seeing the boys in their little kilts! What a super fun day you must have had. By the way... haggis is not that bad. GP and I had it served to us one evening in grand style! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. We love you blog! Hugs and Love to you, Nate and the boys. See you at Shaver!!
