Tonsils

Saxon had to get his tonsils out yesterday.
He was so brave!
We had to be at the surgical center at 6:30 a.m.
It took him a little while to warm up to the nurses, but once he did, they all loved him.
They gave him a special super-hero t-shirt that says "super patient."
Then they handed him an oxygen mask and told him it was his Buzz Lightyear mask.
When they asked him to put on the blue hair net he said no because that is only for girls.
So, they gave him a doctor's hat instead and he thought that was cool :)
So, here is the before:

And here is after:
He didn't even cry when they wheeled him away on his bed, and he didn't cry when he woke up either.  Most kids freak out when they are waking up from anesthesia, and so the nurse said she might need help with him because he is so strong.  But, he woke up, jumped into Nate's arms, and fell back asleep.  The surgery only took 20 minutes, so we were only away from him for about 30 minutes.  I was glad it was quick.  The doctor said his tonsils were HUGE and that his adenoids were touching so he could hardly get any air past them and that is probably why he snores and breathes through his mouth.  He said having them gone should help his sleep better and deeper.
Once we got home, he told Nate and I to stop talking so he could sleep some more :)  He took a long nap and then felt well enough to fight with Bridger over some toys.  He seemed like he's felt pretty good all day, but it's catching up to him and last night he was pretty miserable.  He said his throat hurts, his head hurts, and he itches.  Poor guy.  Hopefully he bounces back quickly because I hate seeing him so miserable.

Brooke had her tonsils and adenoids out this last summer. It is amazing how quickly they heal. I hope he feels better in the morning, but it will probably be up and down for the next week or so. Make sure to stay on top of the pain meds and do you have a humidifier for his room when he's sleeping?
